Getting More Clients is Simpler Than You Think

We’re making this harder than it needs to be.

You might be overcomplicating the process of getting clients without realizing it.

Until you SEE the solution, though, you’ll keep falling into this trap.

I took my family on a dream vacation a little over a year ago.

We had paid off our debt and just bought a house. I took my wife, kids, and my mom to Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida.

We stayed in one of the deluxe hotels right on the resort, where you could see the Magic Kingdom from the hotel.

I booked a limo to take us to and from the airport. My mom and wife got a spa morning while I took the kids to the pool.

This trip was everything I ever wanted for my family.

…except for the first ride we went on.

An in-line meltdown

Our first day at the parks, we went straight to the Magic Kingdom to ride some of the most famous rides in the world.

Following popular advice, we jumped in line for Peter Pan’s Flight – a ride with some of the longest and slowest lines in all 4 Disney parks.

Getting this one out of the way would free up a ton of time for other rides, and get us started with a really magical, fun experience.

My son, Jack, wasn’t feeling the magic, though.

By the time we got in line, you could see the stress on his face.

He got quiet. He got less fun. He was a little crabby. Tears welled up in his eyes more than a few times. He wasn’t goofing around with his brother or sister.

Jack was eight years old, so watching his impatience growing visibly was triggering MY impatience.

We tried dealing with the issue in any number of ways:

  • Pointing out all the magical-looking things in the queue
  • Telling jokes
  • Explaining reasonably about getting used to waiting in line
  • Trying to distract him
  • Pulling him aside and giving stern warnings about ruining the trip due to his attitude

None of it worked.

We got to the ride, and he enjoyed it… but he was still “off”.

Following our plans, we walked across Fantasyland and grabbed a few cinnamon rolls and some juice.

An explosion of magic

After sitting down and eating, Jack perked up.

He goofed off with his siblings.

He made jokes (he is the jokester of the family).

He observed the cool little details inside the building we were in.

It was as if a switch flipped in his brain: now he was the kid we were expecting him to be!

My wife and I looked at each other and nodded: “FOOD.”

For the rest of the trip, when in doubt, we fed the kids.

And the trip became a LOT more fun from then on out.

We overlook simple solutions

Jack wasn’t unappreciative. He wasn’t sick. He wasn’t even tired of waiting in line.

He was just hungry!

One meal solved it.

In my 15+ years as a freelance copywriter, I’ve gone through just about every problem in the book:

  • A string of unhappy clients
  • Massive droughts in income
  • Uncertainty and instability

These are common problems.

You might be experiencing them yourself.

And you know the solution is to get more clients… but that’s easier said than done, right?

Not really.

The simple way to get more clients on demand

When we need more clients or more stability in our businesses, we panic.

  • Do I start looking on job boards?
  • Should I build an email list?
  • Can I attract enough clients on social media?
  • What about this AI app that can mass-DM for me?
  • Maybe a closer would help me?

All of these things are distractions.

Here’s what you have to do to get more clients whenever you need them: Find prospects. Talk to them.

Yes, it is that simple.

Any time I’ve experienced frustrations and struggles in my business over the last decade and a half, it’s because I have wandered away from this basic process.

Whenever I focused on finding potential clients and starting conversations with them, my income goes way up and it stays up.

Simple.
